An initiative taken by the Western Province Cricket Association at the commencement of the 2011/12 cricket season to reward our Club Cricketers with outstanding perfomances.

Dominic Telo (not in picture) from Cape Town Cricket Club scored a match winning innings in the semi final of the 1B Ama20 competition against Ottomans CC. The player mustered a mammoth 147 off 80 balls in their 20 overs. He was name the Cricketer of the Month for the month of October 2011.

Vincent Castle (left) from Helderberg Cricket Club had a superb all round contribution in the Helderberg CC 1D win over Avendale CC with bowling figures of 15-2-35-10 in their first innings and also 3 wickets in the second innings and an amount of 82 runs with the bat. He was named Cricketer of the Month for the month of November 2011.

Sharn Gomes (middle) from Montrose Cricket Club had a good run of form in which he scored an amount of 385 runs in 3 2-Day games at an average of 77 which includes scores of 97, 107, 45, 73*, 39 and 24 respectively. He was named Cricketer of the Month for the month of December 2011.

Reyaan Goliath (right) from Ottomans Cricket Club scored a mammoth double century (201 not out) off 143 balls in a Reserve C 45-Over fixture against Rondebosch. He was named Cricketer of the Month for the month of January 2012.

The JAG Western Province Women's commenced their second half of the 2011/12 cricket season on a good note when they beat South Western Dristricts (SWD) on Saturday, 14 January 2012 in a Cricket South Africka (CSA) One Day Competition at Old Mutual Cricket Club.

Aftern winning the toss and electing to bat first, SWD could only manage to put a target of 74 runs on the board with JAG WP spinner Carolyn Esterhuizen and fast bowler Nicole Hendricks dismissing SWD batsmen cheaply taking 3 wickets a piece.

WP came in  to bat and made everything look easy reaching the target in just 13 overs with only one wicket down. Shandre Fritz and Alexis Le Breton batted their side to victory scoring 34 and 26 respectively winning the match by 9 wickets with a bonus point.

"We played fantastic cricket throughout the day. We bowled great areas and kept pressure on them consistently. We were very pleased to bowl them out for 74. The top order batted superbly to score the runs in 13 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. We are looking forward to carrying this momentum into the rest of the season and playing positive, exciting cricket." said WP Coach Peter Harold.

JAG WP will travel to the Eastern Cape to take on Border Kei on Saturday, January, 29, 2012.

The second half of the CSA 3-Day Competition is underway and what better way to start the season with a derby.

The 3-Day match between JAG WP and Boland is taking place at Northerns Goodwood  Cricket Club. JAG WP won the toss and elected to bat first.

After shaky start when the first 2 wickets Ali Gray (1) and Matthew Kleinveldt (14) fell in just 12 overs. It was Mujahid Behardien and Qaasim Adams who came to the rescue for JAG WP building a strong partnership of 56 runs in 16 overs with Boland spinner Raubenheimer eventually dismissing Behardien for 25 runs.

Qaasim Adams was the star batter for the first day when he scored his Maiden First Class Century off 170 balls. The century comes in after 10 games of his First Class Career since 2007 and now Averages 47.14 and is the player with the highest average in his team thus far. Adams came in to bat at No. 4 and was the last wicket to fall for JAG WP scoring 132 runs in 185 balls (11 fours and 4 sixes). He was assisted by teammates Behardien and Schreuder who scored 25 and 22 respectively.

JAG WP fell six runs short to 250 when they were dismissed all out for 244 runs in 70.3 overs. Boland’s Leg Break spinner Carl Raubenheimer bolwed well to reduce JAG WP’s first innings’ score when he took his fifth Five-for of his cricketing career. He took 5 wickets for 84 runs off 21 overs.

JAG WP fast bolwer Johannes Bothma bowled well towards the end of the Day’s Play taking 2 wickets for 17 in 8 overs. Debutant Anees Davids also got his first First Class wicket dismissing Boland’s key batsman Emile Kriek for 2. Boland are currently on 94/4 in 29 overs with Imran Nackerdien (41*) and night watchman Petrus Jeftha (0*). Boland still trail by 150 runs with 6 wickets remaining in the first innings.
