The Cape Cobras bowlers were out in full force to restrict the Lions to 119. The Lions batting line up was decimated by a combination of Dane Piedt and Dane Paterson. Piedt bowled impressively to claim 4 wickets for 28 runs in 14.2 overs while Paterson took 3 for 33 from his 19 over spell. Justin Kemp picked up 2 wickets while the newly signed IPL man, Beuran Hendricks, picked up 1.
The Cape Cobras second innings started off disastrously. The home team lost wicket after wicket with none of the batsman putting on a display worth remembering. Stiaan van Zyl was the only recognised batsman to score above 10 as he was dismissed for 17. At a stage, the Cobras were 6 wickets down for 42 as the Lions left-arm seamer,LonwaboTsotsobe, tore through the Cobras batting line-up for his 5 wicket haul.
Shaheen Kahn was the man who tried to revive the innings after spending a much needed 50 minutes at the crease to score 24 off 33 balls. Justin Kemp fell shortly afterwards for 16 from 41. The on-par bowling of Tsotsobe and the trickery of Imran Tahir proved to be too much for the Cobras who were restricted to 101 all out.
The Lions, who now trailed by 237, returned to the crease to bat out the final innings of the match. The Lions lost 3 early wickets. Their opening batsman, Quinton de Kock, failed for a second time with the bat when he was clean-bowled by Kemp. Paterson then dismissed Dominic Hendricks via LBW for 0 before Piedt dismissed the Lions danger-man Neil McKenzie for a mere 4 runs.
At stumps on the second day, the Lions are 3 wickets down for 62 and require 176 runs to win with 7 wickets remaining.
