Steyn will replace Ferisco Adams, who had been a revelation in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge by taking 10 wickets. He also bowled a superlative final over on Sunday in the match against the Chevrolet Knights to deny the hosts the spoils.
The 31-year old Phalaborwa Express Steyn has taken 55 wickets in 38 T20 Internationals for South Africa and has a remarkable economy-rate of 6.45.
The management hopes that the fire-power of Steyn and Dane Paterson up front will secure early wickets to deny the Warriors a rollicking start and momentum.
Amla was selected at the expense of Andrew Puttick, who featured in a record opening stand of 140 with Richard Levi against the Warriors at St. George’s Park. Puttick later pulled off a sensational catch at first slip to send the skipper Colin Ingram back to the pavilion.
Justin Ontong, the Cobras skipper, said small improvements will be vital in order for the Cobras to build more momentum ahead of the finals.
“We are determined to win the T20-competition after our disappointing 2-run loss last season,” he added.
The Cobras squad for the match against the Warriors is: Justin Ontong (capt), Hashim Amla, Richard Levi, Omphile Ramela, Dane Vilas, Kieron Pollard, Robin Peterson, George Linde, Dale Steyn, Mthokozisi Shezi, Dane Paterson, Rory Kleinveldt, SA Engelbrecht.
