The first match will be played in Adelaide on the 5th November.
“I have not had much experience in leading teams, except at school level. I did lead a team early this year in the North X1 versus South X1 match,” said Duminy, a hero of the Newlands-faithful.
As a T20-player, Duminy can nudge or caress, plunder or destroy. In short, he is one of the most versatile players globally. He can entertain and dazzle international audiences with his array of shots by either manipulating it with his wrists through the gaps, or smash it over wide long-on for a six.
Duminy said one of the keys to being a successful batsman in the T20-format is to read the situation accurately and to make adjustments accordingly.
“My experience at international level and also as successful player in the Indian Premier League has helped me (to improve assessment of situations),” he said.
Asked how he extended his repertoire of batting skills, Duminy said he learned from other players in similar situations, notably his South African colleagues AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis.
“AB (de Villiers) stands out,” said Duminy.
Du Plessis, regular skipper of the SA T20-team, has been given a rest by the selectors.
Duminy said the three T20 Internationals will offer South African squad-members in the shortest format an opportunity to force their way into contention for the final Cricket World Cup squad to Australasia in February.
Asked about the Nashua Cape Cobras season, Duminy said the Cobras have been exceptional, and he backs them to excel again in the 2014/2015-season.
The SA team is: JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt), Kyle Abbott (Sunfoil Dolphins), Farhaan Behardien (The Unlimited Titans), Quinton de Kock (bizhub Highveld Lions), Marchant de Lange (The Unlimited Titans), Reeza Hendricks (Chevrolet Knights), Imran Tahir (Sunfoil Dolphins), Ryan McLaren (Sunfoil Dolphins), David Miller (Sunfoil Dolphins), Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors), Aaron Phangiso (bizhub Highveld Lions), Kagiso Rabada (bizhub Highveld Lions), Rilee Rossouw (Chevrolet Knights), David Wiese (The Unlimited Titans).
