He was sent for an MRI-scan in India.
Piedt is sent back to South Africa and won’t feature in the final two Group B-games for the Cobras against the Barbados Tridents and the Kings X1 Punjab.
Upon receiving the medial report, Dr Manjra told the Cobras-website that Piedt would be out for four to six weeks. “It is a significant injury and he will be out for a considerable time. It could be longer than six weeks if an operation is required.”
It is a blow to the Cobras’ quest for their third successive title in the Momentum One Day Cup competition. The Cape Town-based franchise would probably be without Piedt for the entire domestic 50-over campaign.
Piedt captured 45 wickets in the eight Sunfoil Series matches in 2013/2014 and was their most successful bowler in ensuring their second successive four-day title.
The national selectors picked Piedt as second spinner in the test-series against Sri Lanka.
He did not feature against the island-men, but was selected for the one-off test against Zimbabwe.
Piedt nabbed out eight batsmen for 152 runs in the test as South Africa won by nine wickets in emphatic fashion.
