The WP bowlers tore through the Border batting line-up with ease to dismiss the home team 163. Border’s opening batsman, Bevan Bennett, was dismissed for a golden duck when he played the ball straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Bradley Barnes off the bowling of Shaheen Khan. Border struggled to get runs on the board however their other opening batsman, Vuyisa Makhaphela, gave his team a fighting chance by scoring a hard earned 76 before he was caught and bowled by Province’s spinner, Sybrand Engelbrecht.
Thokozani Peter took 3 wickets for 25 in his 13-over spell while Engelbrecht, Travis Muller and George Linde each took 2 and Shaheen Khan unfortunate to only pick up 1 after some impressive bowling by the tall all-rounder.
WP was then sent into bat with 36 overs remaining in the days play. Alistair Gray was the first man to fall when he was caught and bowled for 36. The next wicket to fall was Grays fellow opening partner and captain, Omphile Ramela, who was dismissed for 47, just 3 runs short of his half-century.
