Some milestones were reached by the two openers respectively. Matthew Kleinveldt has reached 3 000 First-Class runs at an average of 32.6 since making his debut in 2010. Pieter Malan on the other hand scored his 30th First-Class half century.
It was the bowling of right-arm offbreaker, Corby Dolley that ended the longstanding partnership when he caught and bowled Kleinveldt for 77 runs. Dolley received another wicket in next ball when left-hander Lesiba Ngoepe was trapped LBW in his first ball.
Following the Ngoepe’s dismissal, Malan and Zubayr Hamza stood firm in the crease to construct a 52-run fourth wicket partnership before Malan fell into the hands of medium pacer, Patrick Kruger for 86 runs.
Dolley further dismissed Hamza (79) and Brandon Young (5) to end the day’s play with four wickets for 44.
At close of play, WP are 340/7 in 110 overs. They lead by 82 runs in the first innings.
