Matthew Kleinveldt and Sharn Gomes laid the foundation for WP in the second innings when they put together an opening stand of 69 runs before Swanepoel dismissed Gomes for 20 in the 23rd over.
Kleinveldt (84) was well on his way to his maiden ton in the three day competition before he became the first of five Griffin Nieuwoudt’s victims. This was his sixth 50 in the three day competition this season and his 84 was what his team needed to put a decent target of 259.
Griquas had a depressing second innings’ start when they lost two quick wickets of Roy Adams (0) and Aubrey Swanepoel (0) in the first over to Fracois Plaatjies for no runs. Alan Kruger (61) and Wesly Landsdale (17) constructed 49 runs between them to recover their team’s innings, however the damage was already done upfront by Plaatjies who finished the day with three wickets to his name while Mondli Mahlombe, Matthew Kleinveldt and George Linde all finished with 2 wickets apiece to diminish Griquas to 139 for nine at close of play. They require another 120 runs to win with one wicket remaining.
