The right-hand batter resumed his duties as captain of WP on day one of their Sunfoil 3-Day Cup fixture against Gauteng at PPC Newlands on Thursday, 26 November 2015.
Gauteng won the toss and elected to field first.
Matthew Kleinveldt and Malan laid the foundation for WP. They shared a 64-run opening stand before Kleinveldt was caught behind off fast bowler Matt McGillivray for 26 runs.
Omphile Ramela came in and he and Malan shared a 193-run second wicket stand to take WP past 250. Right-arm off breaker Ndumiso Mvelase gave Gauteng the much needed breakthrough when he trapped Ramela (96) leg before wicket.
Zubayr Hamza came in and simply picked up where Ramela left off. He shared a 62-run third wicket stand with Malan and finished the day unbeaten on 70. Malan’s century took WP past the 300 mark. He eventually succumbed to the bowling of fast bowler Sean Jamison for 135 runs.
