Blue Bells CC won the toss and decided to bat first. The team’s openers got off to what looked like a good start but soon lost their first wicket with only 17 runs on the board. Nathier Gamieldien was the first wicket to fall, being stumped for only seven runs by wicketkeeper Zainudeen Petersen off the bowling of Junaid Mukuddem.
Blue Bells continued losing wickets regularly, but a 46-run fourth-wicket partnership between top-scorer Bassadien (58*) and Niezaam Kherekar (15), saw the WPCA Division 2A One-Day Competition winners fight back to 70 for 4. Bassadien played a great innings, batting right through to the end helping his team to a decent total of 114 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Taahir Teladia was the pick of the bowlers for Rylands CC, getting three wickets and going for only 24 runs in 3.5 overs.
Next in was Rylands CC. They started off solidly and a few misfields by Blue Bells CC saw them gain a bit of confidence.
Divesh Patel (21) and Petersen (11) opened the batting. Patel, who was dropped on one, added another twenty runs to his score before getting caught by Gamieldien off the bowling Ziyaad Sablay.
After losing their first wicket they struggled to put partnerships together. Yusuf Keet delivered what could have been the changing point in the game when he took a wicket off his first delivery for the day. He kept it tight and finished the day having taken one wicket for only 11 runs in his two overs.
Intikaab Ismail put on a brave fight at the end of the innings scoring 33 not out, but wasn’t able to pull it through for his club.
