Fast bowler Mpilo Njoloza took two more wickets this morning to finish with 5/30 in 15 overs and to give WP a first innings lead of 52 runs.
After losing three crucial wickets in the first hour of their innings, Matthew Kleinveldt and Jason Smith stood firm in the crease and took control of the match for WP. Together, the pair constructed a 184-run third wicket partnership. Jason Smith who made his First Class debut back in 2013 scored his maiden century before being trapped leg before wicket by fast bowler Zakhele Qwabe for 119. Four balls later Qwabe further went on to dismiss Kleinveldt for 81 and finished with figures of 4/66 in the second innings.
The thirties and twenties scored by WP’s middle and lower order ensured their side move past the 300 mark and eventually declared at 341 for 9 in 73.3 overs, giving Boland a mammoth target of 394 runs.
