The Easterns batsmen batted tremendously well in the second innings declaring on 399 runs for a loss of just 4 wickets leaving them with a 233-run lead.
19-year old Jurie Snyman stood firm in the middle scoring 150 runs off 147 balls. He and Mangaliso Mosehle (79) put together a third wicket partnership of 192 runs. Matthew Kleinveldt came in and ended the partnership when he dismissed Snyman. The left arm off-breaker went on to dismiss Mosehle in the next over.
WP batters came in with one intention only and that was to win the match. Although the home side lost the first wicket of Captain Pieter Malan, Stiaan Van Zyl came and recovered the innings for WP and scored quick a century that came off just 87 balls. He and Lesiba Ngoepe (48*) showed no mercy towards the Easterns’ bowlers when they put together a 111-run third wicket partnership in just 9.5 overs to take their side over the finishing line with eight wickets in hand.
