Wicket keeper Adrian McLaren starred with the bat for SWD with 67 runs behind his name. He and Christiaan Jonker (47) put the team in command when they produced a third wicket partnership of 98 runs. The highest partnership in the match. In-form young Travis Muller came in and once again rocked the middle and lower order in a 18 over spell that produced his second Five-for for the 2012/13 season. He finished with 6/55 to reduce SWD to 229 all out in the first innings leading by 88 runs.
The session after the lunch break of the match belonged to debutant Marcello Piedt of SWD. The twenty year old quicky was outstanding with the ball as he ripped through Western Province's batting line up in the second innings. He dismissed WP's top three batsmen to return home with figures of 7 wickets for 6 runs in 10 overs in the second innings. Gurshwin Rabie took two of the three remaining wickets to beat WP by an innings and 54 runs.
WP coach Faiek said "we played poorly, we never looked like we're in the game. We missed a lot of chances in the first innings and in the end we paid the price for it. Well done to Travis Muller on his second five-for. He really bowled well out there for the team."
The One-Day Challenge that was scheduled for Sunday will now take place tomorrow, Saturday, 20 Oct 2012.
