This Annual ceremony focused on celebrating the success of amateur cricket from grassroots level to First Class Provincial level was held at the Western Province Cricket Club (WPCC).
WP First Class Provincial batter, Sybrand Engelbrecht received the WPCA First Class Player of the Year award for his outstanding performance with the bat in the 2012/13 season. He finished the season with an average of 53 and 97 in the three-day and one-day competitions respectively. His 214 runs (not out) against Namibia is the highest individual score nationally.
Division 1A/1B Combined Leagues One Day Competition and Division 1B Two Day Competition winners, Durbanville Cricket Club were awarded with the WPCA Club of the Year award for 2012/13. The club’s second and third team also did tremendously well this season when they were the league winners of their respective leagues in the second division.
On the evening, seven members (Oswold Mama, Terry Eksteen, Abu Desai, William Magijima, Clem Druker, Mathenjwa Ndlumbini and Nico van Oordt) were awarded with the Special Presidential Award in appreciation for their dedication, commitment and services to the game of cricket.
Alexis Le Bretton who in her first season as captain led the WP Women’s cricket team to winning the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Provincial One-Day Challenge and the CSA Regional 20/20 Competition received the WPCA Women’s Player of the Year award and WP under 19 coach, Clinton Ravens was named WPCA Coach of the Year.
