The home side were asked to bat first after losing the toss and they outclassed KZN with the bat and ball.
Bradley Barnes missed out on his fourth ton when his innings ended on 93. He and all-rounder Shaheen Khan (84) looked to be in cruise control and together they put on a 153-run sixth wicket partnership.
WP eventually declared their first innings on 436 for seven after a brisk half century by Dane Piedt (51 not out).
Like with the bat, WP’s bowling department did not disappoint them as they took twenty wickets all in one day to claim the match.
Debutant Thokozani Peter will be pleased with his performance. He took four wickets for 12 runs in 9.3 overs at an economy rate of 1.26 to conclude KZN’s first innings on 101 and forced them to a follow-on. He returned with overall figures of 6/15 in 17.3 overs.
Spinner Dane Piedt took 6/68 to dismiss KZN for 180 runs in the second innings to wrap up the game.
The two teams will battle it out one last time when they face each other in the CSA Provincial T20 Competition on Saturday, 25 January 2014 at WPCC
