Four Western Province (WP) cricketers, Dayyaan Galliem, Jason Smith, Hayes van der Berg and Clyde Fortuin were included into the 15-man squad whilst Justin Dill from Boland also gained selection thus making it five Cobras’ players selected in the squad. All these players are also part of the four-day camp that is currently under way at the CSA High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria Sports Complex in preparation for next year’s under-19 World Cup in Dubai.
The last time WP had this kind of selection was in 1998 when current England national player, Jonathan Trott, Andrew Puttick, Thami Tsolekile and Albert Nkomo were then representatives.
Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) General Manager, Nabeal Dien is delighted with the selection of these players, he said “This is the best return we have had in over a decade at SA u-19 level and all involved in the youth structures of WPCA must be proud. We hope these players do well in India to further bolster their chance for final selection to the World Cup in Dubai next year.”
