After losing the toss and being sent in to bat first, WP only managed to score a mere 90 runs in the first innings. Rowan Richards and Sammy Mofokeng denied WP batsmen scoring opportunities when they finished first innings with figures of 4/20 and 5/33 respectively. Zubayr Hamza (22) was the only WP batter to reach the twenties.
In reply to WP’s 90 runs, Northerns scored 201 runs in 56.1 overs in their first innings, giving them a lead of 111 runs. Heinrich Klaasen fell just six runs short of his century when he was caught behind off Travis Muller for 94 runs. Brandon Young and Travis Muller did well to limit Northerns from setting a big lead. They finished with 4/38 and 3/54 respectively.
There was not much improvements in the batting department for WP in the second innings. The team scored another low score of 139 all out in 44 overs giving the host a mere target to 29 runs to win the match. Rowan Richards took another four wickets in the second innings to finish the match with overall match figures on 8 wickets for 54 runs in 24.4 overs.
It only took seven overs for the Northerns’ batsmen to wrap up the match with only two wickets down.
